Top 7 Easily Hidden Piercings – Your Little Secret!

Walking around with a body and face full of metal jewelry is life for many people. For others it is simply not feasible though. This could be due to their job, school or parents.

There are certain situations in life where it is not appropriate to have tons of piercings on show. For example, if you are attending a job interview. You stand a much better chance of landing the job if the interviewer can not see any visible piercings on you.

Although there are many companies who do allow there employees to have piercings, there are even more who don’t. In my personal opinion, having a piercing or four is not going to effect the quality of your work. Therefore I think this rule is pointless! What can you do though?

There are certain times in life where we need to think outside the box. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with bending the rules a little bit. Afterall, your boss won’t even know!

Instead of letting your creativity get stifled and neglecting your right to self expression, why not consider getting a easily hidden piercing?

For those of you who are having trouble coming up with ideas for piercings you can hide, here area a few suggestions:

Septum Piercing

Septum PiercingOne of the coolest piercings which you can hide. My personal favourite, the septum piercing.

What I like about the septum piercing is the fact that it is right there in the centre of your face when you want it to be. But when you don’t want it there, you can neatly tuck it away!

When a situation arises that calls for you to be piercing free, it can be neatly tucked away, flipped up into your nostrils. No one will even be aware of its existence! You can actually get jewelry for your septum which is specially shaped in such a way that it will fit perfectly inside your nostrils.

Belly Button Piercing

Belly Button PiercingMost of us don’t walk around with our belly button on show all the time. This is particularly true when you are in a situation where you need to tone down your appearance!

If you are in a ‘less clothed’ situation and need to hide your belly button piercing, there are piercing retainers you can buy for this very purpose. They are usually made from a flexible, non-shiny material such as BioFlex or BioPlast and are available in a variety of skintones or clear. From a distance, no one would be able to tell, unless they were already aware that you have the piercing.

Sorry for stating the obvious, but this one was pretty self explanatory, wasn’t it?

Nipple Piercing

Nipple PiercingsIf you are a woman, your nipples are not going to be seen many people anyway, so this is an obvious choice if you want a piercing that must remain unseen.

Guys, on the other hand, you may find it a little bit trickier to get away with keeping a nipple piercing a secret. This might even involve resisting the urge to take your shirt off when the weather gets hot. Depending on who exactly you are hiding the piercing from of course.

Another potential problem with the nipple piercing is that it may be visible if you are wearing a thin or white shirt. Your nipple may look like they are permanently hard. In order to minimise this issue you could get yourself a neutral coloured nipple piercing retainer made from a softer and more flexible material such as BioFlex/BioPlast. You may also want to try wearing a thicker t-shirt and maybe avoid wearing white.

Microdermal or Surface Piercing

Cleavage PiercingThe most versatile type of piercing you can get!

As you may know, both microdermal and surface piercings can be placed nearly anywhere on the body. This includes some very private and hidden areas where no one except your significant other will even get a glimpse of it.

Use your imagination. If you are considering either of these two types of piercings, your options are pretty much unlimited!

My top recommendations for hidden microdermal and surface piercings are the hips, the cleavage, back of the neck or behind the ear (can be hidden with long hair).

Genital Piercings

Needless to say, one of the most private piercings you can get is *drumroll* your private parts!

I’m not going to sit here and type out the names of all the different piercings you could get down below because I’m sure you get the picture already.

Genital piercings are not for everyone, but you can be sure that no one will know about it except for your very nearest and dearest. It may even bit a nice little surprise for your significant other!

All Around the Ears

Cartilage PiercingsIf you have longer hair, you could consider certain ear piercings, which could be easily hidden under your hair. Even if you have short hair, you could wear a hat!

One of your best options would be the helix piercing, which is at the top of your ear, on the cartilage. Being as this piercing is right at the top of your ear, long hair would cover it naturally without any real effort on your part. It can’t  get much easier than that!

I would also suggest the daith, conch or snug piercing; just wear a small and subtle piece of jewelry and allow your hair to flow over it naturally. You could get away with having multiple piercings in your ears without being noticed if your hair is thick and darker in colour.

The awesome thing is that when you want to show your piercings off all you have to do is tie your hair up!

See a list of all the different types of ear piercings here.

Tongue Piercings

Tongue Frenulum PiercingObviously your tongue is in your mouth so therefore a piercing in this area would be easy enough to hide. Provided you do not talk too much or open your mouth wide too often (Cover your mouth when you yawn!). I know it may sound like I’m stating the obvious, but I do feel that the tongue piercing is a worthy candidate for one of the best easily hidden piercings

When you are in an anti-piercing situation, put in a piercing retainer in a neutral colour or a clear one. As long as you are not sticking your tongue out at people, you should get away with it problem free!

Those of you who would like to take the concept of hidden piercings to another level of extreme would love the tongue web piercing!

Note: Oral piercings need to be very well cared for as they are at high risk of infection.

Conclusion

The “no piercings” rule is definitely a rule which can be broken without getting in trouble, losing your job or frightening anyone!

It’s just a fact of life that those of us who appear to be ‘alternative’ in anyway are expected to tone it down for certain occasions. Society is just not quite ready for how cool you look!

Just remember that at the end of the day, it is your body and therefore your choice to pierce it. Although if your piercings are getting the way of you getting your dream job, you may have to rethink your priorities!

Keep being yourself and while you’re here, tell me about what secret and hidden piercings are on your body. Drop a comment below. I love hearing from you guys!

  1. There are so many different types of piercing. My Sister is really into it, but we were talking and she had a worry about exactly this, how to still have piercings and get away with looking professional still.

This article will be really useful for her, I will pass it on!

  2. Great site! My 13 year old is on my case about getting a piercing and while I’m not against it I was thinking of where we could subtly place it and that is how I found your site. Based on her age, I think its either going to be around the ears or I’m up for a small nose piercing. Thanks for the info. Keep up the good work.

    • Hi there. The ears are always a safe bet, especially for a 13 year old. Nose piercings can be hidden easily enough too – so that’s another good option. If she does get the piercing, refer back to my site for som aftercare tips.

Thanks for reading! Glad I have helped you out a little bit.

      Hannah.

  3. Indeed, we must be very conscious of certain times in life where we need to think outside the box. This basically so because of the cultural undertones to such acts.

In my opinion, there is nothing really wrong with bending the rules a little bit just to express ourselves. Afterall, our superiors may even know! yet you never know when they would know.

In my part of the world, carrying such bunds of metals, silver and gold all over your body can appear fashionable only to a certain class of persons.

Therefore, instead of letting your life’s chances pass on, and neglecting your right to self expression, you could consider getting a piercing that is hidden?

    Great pen there Hannah

    success to your work.

    • Hi Joseph.

Exactly! If everyone was to follow the rules all the time, the world would be a very boring place. We are human beings, not cattle! There are so many different ways we can express ourselves, having a piercing no one knows about is a pretty effective one – only trusted individuals will even know this piercing exists!

      Thanks or your input.

      Hannah.

  4. My girlfriend wants to get a tongue pierce. Is there a benefit from it? She told me that it looks cool. In my mind, it is always hidden so I dont understand her point LOL I will get her to check this site out. There’s so much info in here.

    • Hey Von.

Many people reckon that tongue piercings increase pleasure for the man during oral sex. It’s down to personal taste though. It definitely adds a new sensation to the experience from what I’ve heard!

      Thanks for stopping by.
      Hannah.

  5. Great post. I have been thinking about nipple piercings for a while, am I right in thinking that you can’t just take them out for a few hours at a time? Do you always need to have something inn it?
    Thanks

    • Nipple piercings do close up very quickly Dan. You heard correctly. This is especially true if you have not had the piercing for long. You can get piercing retainers to keep them open if you do not want to wear any heavy duty jewelry. They are very comfortable!

      Thanks very much!
      Hannah.

  6. Wow so many types and places one can be pierced which I have had no idea about. Interesting post, I know a friend that loves piercing and will suggest this post to her.

  7. Hi Hannah,
I absolutely love body piercings and have/had numerous parts of my body pierced. Unfortunately my body rejects microdermals and surface piercings (they just grow out) so even though I love them it makes no sense that I try and get the done again.
I have been thinking about a septum piercing and I’m glad you mentioned that it can be hidden whenever I want. It is a toss up between that or a ‘dolphin’ at the moment. I’ll let you know what I decide.:-)
    Love and light.
    Vivia

    • Hi Vivia.

Some people’s body’s are just more sensitive to piercings than other which makes them prone to rejection. Sounds like that is the case with you. Have you tried wearing titanium jewelry in a larger gauge size?

Please do let me know what piercing you end up getting! Both the dolphin piercing and the septum are awesome!
      Hannah.

  8. Hi Hannah
Even though I have no unconventional piercings per se, I identify with this post and society’s perception. As I have a lot of tattoos (and just got new ones a week ago!). For a while, I had to hide them. But guess what? I found a place of work that is accepting. I hid them in the interview but now they are widely accepted. Because guess what? They don’t make me incompetent….I am extremely competent at what I do and both my staff, clients and boss know that. I have a fair amount of staff how have microdermal piercings or tongue piercings. And it is also accepted. Would I have some? Hmmmm that’s a good question. I think if I were to have piercings, it would be around the ears. because I have to meet with other important people in the community, I don’t think the facial piercings AND the tattoos would fly…

    • Hey Emily. You’re very lucky to have found a job where you are accepted for who you are, tattoos and all. I would like to believe that as the human race progresses, we will be more accepting of other’s life decisions. Even if they are a bit unconventional! I can understand that older people and some other cultures might find facial piercings a bit disturbing. If I was working somewhere that involved face to face contact with anyone who might think like that, I would be inclined to make sure they couldn’t see any more unusual piercings.

Thanks for taking your time to read my post and leave a comment!
      Hannah.
